Waiting on Wednesday!

Waiting on Wednesday is a Book Meme started by Breaking the Spine that highlights upcoming releases that the blogger is eagerly anticipating!

I am taking part in this meme because I am super stoked for some books coming out in June 2014!

In no particular order here are two books that just so happen to be in the same genre: Horror. I don’t know about you, but I love a good summer scare.

Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King
Release Date: June 3, 2014
Publisher: Scribner
Hardcover: $19.48 (B&N)
NookBook: $14.99 (B&N)

In a mega-stakes, high-suspense race against time, three of the most unlikely and winning heroes Stephen King has ever created try to stop a lone killer from blowing up thousands.

In the frigid pre-dawn hours, in a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of desperate unemployed folks are lined up for a spot at a job fair. Without warning, a lone driver plows through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes, running over the innocent, backing up, and charging again. Eight people are killed; fifteen are wounded. The killer escapes.

In another part of town, months later, a retired cop named Bill Hodges is still haunted by the unsolved crime. When he gets a crazed letter from someone who self-identifies as the “perk” and threatens an even more diabolical attack, Hodges wakes up from his depressed and vacant retirement, hell-bent on preventing another tragedy.

Brady Hartfield lives with his alcoholic mother in the house where he was born. He loved the feel of death under the wheels of the Mercedes, and he wants that rush again. Only Bill Hodges, with a couple of highly unlikely allies, can apprehend the killer before he strikes again. And they have no time to lose, because Brady’s next mission, if it succeeds, will kill or maim thousands. (B&N)

If you don’t already know, I’m a huge Stephen King fan! I love every book of his I have read and I am eagerly anticipating greatness in Mr. Mercedes. If the cover doesn’t creep you out enough then I’m sure the book will do the job. I love the suspense of the race against time. The characters sound interesting and, I mean, this is super biased but it’s Stephen King so that’s reason enough for me to be excited!

The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey
Release Date: June 10, 2014
Publisher: Orbit
Hardcover: $16.25 (B&N)
NookBook: $12.99 (B&N)

The Girl With All the Gifts is a groundbreaking thriller, emotionally charged and gripping from beginning to end.

Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class.

When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don’t like her. She jokes that she won’t bite, but they don’t laugh.

Melanie is a very special girl.

This short, but tantalizing synopsis has given me goosebumps. Upon doing some research I found out that M.R. Carey has done some work with D.C. Comics and X-Men storylines. I love X-Men, I love people with supernatural gifts that scare the pants off of everyone around them. This story just sounds like it’s either going to be heartbreaking or terrifying. It could very well be both! Needless to say, I’m definitely interested!

What are you looking for that’s releasing this month or this summer? I’d love to add some books to my monster of a TBR list!

Happy Reading!
